CE standard offers opportunities for internationalization
Erkelenz, Germany, December 2020 - The European fire/smoke protection product standard EN 16034 "Windows, doors and gates – with fire and/or smoke protection properties" which has been mandatory for some product categories since November 1st, 2019 will replace the previous national standards. Manufacturing companies can now offer their product portfolio of fire protection closures throughout Europe.
Since November 1st, 2019 fire and smoke protection gates for internal and external use as well as external doors may only be placed on the market with CE marking. In the foreseeable future, this CE marking will also become mandatory for internal doors. Therefore, manufacturers already have to adhere to CE standards for parts of their portfolio, which brings both challenges and benefits.
Due to the strict European testing requirements, doors meeting the CE standard are offering a very high safety level. This is monitored by notified product certification bodies to make sure only compliant doors receive the CE mark. The CE standard therefore sets the standard for all European countries. Companies that so far could only sell their products nationally, are now given the option to offer them across Europe.
No development or testing required thanks to licensing system
In order to spare manufacturing companies efforts in developing and testing new, standard-compliant closures, the safety door expert System Schröders offers an extensive range of door designs and performances, allowing clients to immediately start production after purchasing the appropriate license. Since System Schröders doors have all been tested and certified according to applicable standards, no more costly and time-consuming developments and tests are necessary. This way, manufacturers can quickly update and expand their own product range.
The so-called ModulSystem also gives licensees the opportunity to combine doors of the fire protection classes EI230, EI260 und EI290 with additional performance features, such as smoke protection of classes Sa und S200, burglary protection up to class RC4 or sound insulation up to 53dB, thus meeting individual customer requirements. Moreover, the ModulSystem includes additional fire doors of classes EI2120, E60, E120, E180 und E240.
Furthermore, System Schröders supports all licensees with profound know-how and continuously develops its products and patents to meet current European standards, such as the product standard EN 16034.
